It was a heartbreaking sight: a German Shepherd was spotted wandering around on her own in the streets of Detroit, with nothing but her favorite stuffed animal to keep her company.
But now, this beautiful dog is safe and sound after being rescued.
According toย FOX 2 Detroit, locals saw the dog wandering the streets and, although she is a female, they called her โNicholas.โ Neighbors reported that the dog became homeless after her owner passed away.
As the dogโs story spread, a number of local groups โ including It Is Pawzable Dog Training, South Lyon Murphy Lost Animal Recovery, Sugar Mutts Dog Grooming, and Almost Home Animal Rescue โ came together to trap the dog and get her to safety.
โEverybody comes together and works as a team, which is so amazing,โ Katrina Weaver, the owner of It Is Pawzable, told FOX 2.
Thankfully, their rescue mission was a success: Almost Home No Kill Rescue reported on May 3 that the dog had successfully been trapped and was now in their care. They renamed โNicholasโ โNikki,โ because sheโs a female dog.
