According to a post from adogloverforever, a pregnant dog, in labor for a full day, was abandoned at the Boone Area Humane Society.
She underwent an emergency C-section and experienced two instances of cardiac arrest following the procedure, but she was eventually stabilized. She received a blood transfusion and was closely monitored in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Iowa State’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
On Facebook, the Boone Area Humane Society posted, ‘The veterinarians at ISU also informed us that this lady is an older dog and has had several litters of puppies in the past.
The prime years of her life should have been filled with joy, but she was bred and then abandoned when her labor became too difficult
Mama dog delivered 21 puppies, but despite the dedicated care of veterinarians, unfortunately, all of them have passed away.
All the puppies were underdeveloped, and it was impossible for them to receive proper nourishment while sharing the womb with 21 siblings.
Ruthie, the mother dog, is making steady progress every day. She’s eating on her own, and she’s now able to get up and go outdoors. Her temperament is truly remarkable, and she has been released from the hospital to join her new foster family, where she will continue her rehabilitation.
In the meantime, the Humane Society is putting forth every effort to pursue legal action against the person responsible for leaving Ruthie to endure such suffering. However, they describe it as a challenging endeavor due to the lenient animal protection regulations in Iowa.
